The Complete Guide to Sealing Pavers

December 25th, 2025

When using pavers to give your outdoors the perfect and polished look, you can’t just lay them down and call it a day!

Sealing your pavers is one of the most important steps in maintaining a clean, attractive, and long-lasting outdoor space. Whether your pavers are concrete, brick, natural stone, or travertine, applying the right sealant helps protect your investment against wear, stains, weeds, fading, and more.

At Marshal Renee Construction Companies and PavePro, we love to see our clients enjoy their pavers for years. This all starts with sealing. Need to know more about the process? We’ve got your back!

Sealing pavers benefits

Why Seal Pavers?

Pavers are built for durability, but they are still exposed to water, oil, UV rays, foot traffic, and shifting ground. Sealing adds protection and enhances the overall look of your surface.

Here’s a quick rundown of the benefits of paver sealing:

  • Stain Resistance
  • Color Enhancement
  • Weed and Insect Control
  • Water Protection
  • UV Defense
  • Easier Maintenance

How Often Should You Seal Pavers?

Unfortunately, sealing isn’t just a one and done event. We suggest most pavers should be sealed every 2-3 years.

Remember, how often you need to seal, relies on how you use your pavers on your property. For example, if you have high-traffic areas like driveways or pool patios, you will need frequent sealing.

Not sure of the frequency? Contact the professionals at Marshal Renee Construction Companies! We’re always available to answer your questions and help.

The Paver Sealing Process: Step-by-Step

A professional paver sealing job involves more than just applying a coat of product. Here’s how the process typically works:

Step 1: Surface Cleaning

Our team power washes to remove dirt, moss, stains, and old sealant. You want the sealant to stick, so creating a clean surface is critical.

Step 2: Re-Sanding the Joints

We brush joint sand into the gaps between pavers. This stabilizes the surface and prevents shifting.

Step 3: Sealant Application

We use a sprayter or roller to evenly apply the sealant across the target surface. This part of the process can take one or two coats. It really depends on the surface area, the type of paver we’re sealing, and which sealant we use.

Curing Time

Worried about how long it will take for sealant to cure? The good news is that it’s a quick 24-48 hour process. Until it dries, keep the area clear from vehicle and foot traffic.

Types of Paver Sealers

Choosing the right sealant depends on your goals: do you want a natural matte finish or a glossy wet look? Do you need heavy-duty protection or a more eco-friendly option?

Water-based sealers are a popular choice. They are fast drying, low odor, present less risk of discoloration. Even better, they are an environmentally-friendly option, when compared to a solvent-based sealer.

However, solvent-based sealers are equally as popular a choice. They bring a rich color enhancement and the glossy finish that many owners want to see after laying pavers. Although it creates higher durability, it may darken some pavers and does require more ventilation during application.’
